ADVOCACY INITIATIVES
SEEKING JUSTICE
The Latin American Coalition serves as a liaison for Latinos who are victims of fraud and unscrupulous business practices. We help Latino families recuperate unpaid wages and personal property, address complaints of discrimination as well as access affordable legal services.
- Labor Rights Program: Educates day laborers, domestic workers and other vulnerable employees about their work place rights and potential fraudulent practices by employers, recovering hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid wages for workers.
- Immigration Services: Board of Immigration Appeals recognized organization, providing direct legal services to immigrants through an accredited representative and skilled support staff..
- Consumer Rights Program: Helps Latinos address human rights violations, consumer fraud, and predatory lending concerns by providing the support and direction needed to file a public grievance, recuperate money or property, or pursue legal action.
STRENGTHENING VOICES
The Latin American Coalition advances the full participation of Latino families in the greater Charlotte community and the nation at large. We promote active citizenship, guiding eligible applicants through naturalization, encouraging involvement in the political process, and supporting volunteerism and philanthropy.
- Leadership Development: Supports grass-roots efforts to empower and mobilize emerging Latino leaders.
- Citizenship and Civic Engagement: Citizenship classes and clinics as well as voter registration, education and mobilization activities
