UPDATE, 7/22/14 5:00 p.m. - Rausel has been released! Watch a short video on our Facebook page.
Rausel Arista-- father to 2 young boys, a community leader, and an organizer here at the Latin American Coalition since 2012-- was detained and put into deportation proceedings this morning at the Buffalo, NY airport on his way home to Charlotte. He is currently being held in a Buffalo area detention center, hundreds of miles away from home and his family.
Please take a few moments to help Rausel by taking one or more of the following actions:
+ Call ICE now at 202-732-3000 and tell them you are calling in support of Rausel Arista, A#206-437-360, who is being held in the Buffalo Detention Center. You may also add that Rausel has lived in the U.S. since 1995, has 2 citizen children, has no criminal history, is a low priority for removal, and that he please be released immediately. + Come to the vigil this evening, Monday, July 21st at 7:00 p.m. at Caldwell Presbyterian Church, located at 1609 East 5th Street in Charlotte [map]
Rausel is a great guy. He’s originally from Mexico, has been an active civil rights advocate since 2006, and has participated in nationally recognized campaigns with the American Friends Service Committee, the Keeping Families Together campaign, and Reform Immigration for America. Since he has been in the U.S., Rausel has been continuously employed, active in the Catholic Church, and a volunteer in his community.
Thanks for helping our family.
