The Latin American Coalition and the Afro-American Cultural Center present the exhibit THE AFRICAN PRESENCE IN MEXICO featuring the work of Mexican photographer Romualdo Garcia, (1852-1930) with photographs from the Archives of “Museo Alhondiga de Granaditas” of Guanajuato, Mexico taken between 1887 and 1914; which provides evidence of the African presence at that time; and contemporary photographs made by Wendy Phillips, Ph.D. in the region of “La Costa Chica” of Guerrero and Oaxaca, in southwest Mexico, made between 1999 and 2005.
The photography exhibit provides an opportunity for African Americans and Mexicans in the Charlotte community to learn about shared aspects of their histories and opens the door to conversation and dialogue.
