FAMILY DEFENSE NETWORK & VOLUNTEER MANAGER

The Latin American Coalition (La Coalición) is seeking a bilingual, Family Defense Network & Volunteer Manager. The main responsibility of this role is to act as a liaison, facilitator, organizer or convener, to connect national family defense advocacy strategies to local efforts through partnership and collaboration. This position will also oversee community engagement efforts which includes the volunteer/internship and ID/Membership programs. This position requires frequent evening or weekend activities with a flexible working schedule. Travel for professional development may be required.

This is a full-time, exempt position that reports to the Executive Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS FAMILY DEFENSE NETWORK

  • Coordinate the FDN volunteers and partners to:
  • Run the FDN hotline to ensure detained individuals have access to legal support during the crisis period: the initial 24-72 hours upon being detained.
  • Provide access to legal representation for deportation cases through our network of pro and low-bono legal professionals.
  • Link community resources for the individual detained and their family through our network of partner agencies and community resources.
  • Organize community advocacy in collaboration with local immigrant rights organizations.
  • Coordinate media messaging and education campaigns debunking immigration myths and uplifting stories showing the true impact of immigration on our communities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS VOLUNTEER/INTERN MANAGEMENT

  • Serve a supervisor to the Americorp Volunteer Management person.
  • Coordinate staff and volunteers to run Faith Action Network ID Drives.
  • Print ID’s and make sure that they are issued
  • Assist Special Events Manager locate and place volunteers for cultural events

 

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of La Coalición
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience accepted. Public Policy or Public Administration, Social Work or related field preferred
  • Strong project management skills
  • Minimum one-year experience in organizing, mobilizing groups to achieve specific goals or campaigns a plus
  • Fluency in Spanish and English
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills for multiple audiences and persuasive strategic communication skills and ability to effectively build consensus among multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead convenings and meetings, deliver presentations, give speeches, and represent La Coalición to external audiences
  • Experience recruiting, supervising, and motivating large number of volunteers
  • Excellent organizational skills to build and carry-out effective work plans and evaluations
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and ability to think and work strategically
  • Experience using list-serves, social media, and other ways to inform and activate people
  • Willingness to travel and work weekend or weeknight hours when required

 

The Latin American Coalition is a community of Latin Americans, immigrants, and allies that promotes full and equal participation of all people in the civic, economic, and cultural life of North Carolina through education, celebration, and advocacy.

Salary Range: $32,000 to $34,000 per year, plus benefits. Commensurate to experience and qualifications.
