Grammy-Winning Salsa Singer Luis Enrique headlines the 26th Annual Latin American Festival

CHARLOTTE, NC (August  8, 2016) - Mingle with thousands of other culture and music lovers at one of Charlotte’s largest cultural events, the Latin American Festival. We bring you an incredible lineup of musical artists and dance performances, a diverse selection of Latin American food, handmade crafts, visual artists, and an interactive street festival environment with activities for the whole family. You won’t know where to look next! The festival takes place on Saturday, October 8, 2016 from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m. (rain or shine) at Symphony Park, South Park Mall. General admission is $5, children under 8 are free. Proceeds from the festival support the Latin American Coalition, with soda and water sales benefitting the Latin American Women’s Association.

Headlining this year’s festival is Nicaraguan singer/songwriter Luis Enrique! With 3 Latin Grammy Awards, an American Grammy, 4 Premios Lo Nuestro, 4 Latin Billboard Awards, 2 Premios Ronda, and many more recognitions, Luis Enrique is one of the most respected artists in the Latin entertainment industry. Better known as “El Príncipe de la Salsa,” this versatile musician is considered one of the best percussionists in Latin music.

The music lineup includes Grammy Award winners, La Santa Cecilia, a Mexican-American band based in Los Angeles that exemplifies the modern-day creative hybrid of Latin culture, rock and world music; continues with Venezuela’s ska superstars Desorden Publico, who is celebrating 30 years of making fun and energetic music; crowd favorites, Caique Vidal & Batuque, will bring the original sound of Bahia with Afro-Brazilian music and folkloric dance performances from across Latin America. Come experience an explosion of brilliantly colored costumes and time-honored cultural traditions.

Don’t forget about the food! One of the most popular areas of the festival is the marketplace. From authentic Mexican tacos to Colombian empanadas and everything in between, enjoy some of the most diverse and delicious Latin food in Charlotte. After satisfying your hunger, peruse a variety of authentic handmade arts and crafts, and meet local Latino artists.

The Latin American Festival is proud to have WSOC-TV, TV 64, and goCarolinas.com as its 2016 presenting sponsors. All funds raise support community-based programs and services. For more information visit www.festivallatinoamericano.org.
