Grammy-nominated salsa music star Tito Nieves headlines Charlotte's 27th Annual Latin American Festival

CHARLOTTE, NC (August 23, 2017) -  Festival Latinoamericano, Charlotte’s signature cultural event, returns for its 27th year to Symphony Park on Saturday October 14 from 12 to 8PM;  with an incredible lineup of musical artists and dance performances, a diverse authentic selection of Latin American food, handmade crafts, visual artists, and an interactive street festival environment with activities for the whole family.

Headlining this year’s Rumba Stage is Puerto Rican singer/multi-instrumentalist Tito Nieves, one of salsa’s prime hit-makers in the '90s. Better known as “El Pavarotti de la Salsa,” (the Luciano Pavarotti of salsa music) he set himself apart by singing salsa in English and became a chart-topper in 1997 with mega hit "I Like It Like That".

The music lineup also includes 2 time Grammy Award nominated, Jam Afro-Caribbean band Locos Por Juana; Venezuela’s ska superstars Desorden Publico, who are celebrating 30 years of making fun and energetic music; Costa Rica sensation Gonin, Los Angeles Latin quartet orchestra Conganas and Charlotte's Latin reggae band Jahlistic.

The festival's Carnaval Stage features traditional and contemporary dance performances from across Latin America and Spain. You’ll experience an explosion of brilliantly colored costumes and time-honored cultural traditions. In addition, making its festival debut, we will have Nouveau Sud, a circus rooted in “underground” dance/acrobatic/physical theatre scenes that addresses current issues.

One of the most popular areas of the festival is the food court. From authentic Mexican tacos to Colombian empanadas and everything in between, enjoy some of the most diverse and delicious Latin food in Charlotte. Explore the marketplace and purchase authentic handmade arts and crafts, and meet local Latino artists.

The Latin American Festival is proud to have Telemundo Charlotte and Compare Foods as its 2017 presenting sponsors. All funds raised support community-based programs and services of the Latin American Coalition..
