A MESSAGE FROM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JESS GEORGE
Dear Friends,
I am honored and proud to write you this letter, which is just as much a thank you note as it is a
request for continued support. The Latin American Coalition's work transcends
that of a traditional social service agency, engaging our communities - both immigrant newcomers and
established families - in creating a more integrated, just and caring North Carolina.
Together we are
reinventing what immigrant integration looks like.
In the past 12 months:
- Our Immigrant Welcome Center - the only such space in the region - provided emergency intervention services for 1,040 immigrant families in crisis and victims of exploitation, AND provided integration support and classes to more than 1,631 newcomers.
- Our Immigration Law Clinic provided free or low-cost legal services to more than 520 immigrant families including full representation in over 113 cases.
- Our Policy & Advocacy work helped stop 19 explicitly anti-immigrant pieces of legislation in the North Carolina State Assembly.
While these statistics demonstrate the impact we have in our community, our work is best represented by the stories of our young leaders who are at the forefront of community change. Please take the time to read the letters from Juan and Armando, two of the extraordinary youth activists whose lives have been touched by the Coalition.
